Police in East London say they have been monitoring a protest by the community of Komga, outside East London, since Thursday.

"The protesters have obstructed the road to the location with stones, logs and burning tyres.

"As of yet it is unclear of their reason for their activities however it is believed that they are unhappy with the currently appointed local council," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"There are reports that windows to the local councilor’s house have been damaged, no arrests have been made at this stage.

"Public Order Police are also part of the operation."
