East London police need help after thief drives off with man's car and his son

Police in East London on Wednesday appealed to the public for assistance with information that can help them in their investigations after a local policeman's vehicle was stolen with his son in the vehicle.

"At approximately 16:00, a Blue Mazda 3, with registration FFM218EC, was parked in front of a tyre fitment centre in Cambridge Street," described police spokesperson, Warrant officer Hazel Mqala.

"The owner was busy inside the shop, when an unknown male got into the vehicle and drove off.

"The owner's 34-year-old son, who has down syndrome, was in the vehicle."

She said that a search by the SAPS has been intensified.

"Any person with information on the vehicle or the missing person to contact the crime stop number on 0860010111."
