Police in East London are on Friday continuing with their search for two men, who went missing in the surf at the City's Eastern Beach on Thursday afternoon.

According to Geoff McGregor, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) East London station commander, at 15h30, the NSRI East London duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Eastern Beach.

"The sea rescue craft Lotto Rescue Runner was launched and our sea rescue vehicle with NSRI rescue swimmers, the SA Police Services K-9 Search and Rescue, Aldersons ambulance service and BCM (Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality) Fire and Rescue Services responded," he described.

"On arrival on the scene a search commenced for two men, one aged 25 and one man, whose age is unknown, missing in the surf after getting into difficulties while swimming."
