East London shop owner arrested for trading liquor without licence

The East London Social Crime Prevention Unit on Tuesday arrested a shop owner for trading liquor without a licence in the city.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Hazel Mqala, officers followed up on information of a shop that was allegedly selling liquor at the taxi rank in Gilwell Mall in East London.

“On further investigation, they found crates of beer and wine,” said Warrant Officer Mqala.

She added that the shop owner was arrested and will appear in court soon.

In an unrelated incident, 38-year-old man is expected to appear before the Ngcobo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after he was arrested for possession of dagga at Nkqonkqo shacks in Ngcobo.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, the suspect was arrested while police were conducting crime prevention operations at Nkqonkqo shacks in Ngcobo.
