East London woman in court over restricted medicines, son busted with heroin

East Londdon -An East London woman is expected in court after she was arrested by local police for possession of restricted medicines and syringes while her son was arrested for drug possession.

"Police were conducting stop and search operation at Cambridge when they came across a 22-year-old man, on searching him, they found heroin in his possession," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"While still busy with him, a woman, who claimed to be his mother came.

"Police then requested to search her vehicle."

Capt Mbi said that on opening her bag, they found a variety of medicines and syringes.

"On being questioned, she claimed to be helping people. Most of the medicines were scheduled to be acquired with prescription only, which the woman didn't produce," she described.

"The 65-year-old woman will be charged with possession of schedule 3, 4 ,5 of Act 1001/1965 and failure to dispose medical waste and is appearing before the East London magistrate's court on Friday.

"The illegal administration of these medicines could have severe consequences to the patients and some could be deadly."
