Eastern Cape Premier condemns blocking of N2 highway

Mthatha - Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, on Tuesday condemned the reported snatching of keys from truck drivers by an unknown group of people in Butterworth, which then used the same trucks to block parts of the N2 in Butterworth.

"The information about this criminality was brought to the Premier's attention this morning," he said.

"Premier Mabuyane regards this conduct as an act of criminality and has dispatched law enforcement agencies to remove the trucks from the road."

He said that South African Police Services Officers are at the scene of this incident and are also helping to redirect traffic while tow trucks are on the way to tow the trucks from the road.

Premier Mabuyane said government will not tolerate this criminality in the province.

He called on the South African Police Services to work with the owners of the trucks to identify the individuals behind this criminality and to bring them to book.

Premier Mabuyane thanked the people of the province, who reported this criminality to government.
