Eastern Cape SAPS boss condemns the fatal shooting of elderly woman

Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, on Monday condemned the early morning attack on two women in Lower Didimana near Whittlesea that left a 70-year-old woman dead.

"This act of cruelty by these ruthless sadistic criminals on defenseless women is strongly condemned. The community are urged to assist the SAPS in tracking down the suspects who shot two women one of whom was fatally wounded," she said.

"Crimes against women and children remain a national priority, and as the SAPS we will leave no stoned unturned until these perpetrators are taken into custody and we establish the motive for these attacks."

According to police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, in the early hours of Monday morning, police responded to two separate incidents of shooting in the Lower Didimana Admin Area, within the Queenstown Cluster of the SAPS.

Elderly woman shot and killed

"It is alleged that two armed unknown men entered two homesteads at Lower Didimana. They approached the first homestead where they shot a 55-year-old woman and thereafter proceeded to the second house and shot the 70-year-old woman, who died at the scene," she added. 

"The suspects then fled the scene. The first victim was taken to hospital where she is in a critical condition. The motive for these heinous attacks are unknown and will be investigated."
