Eastern Province U19 Cricket players make Cricket SA shortlist

Three Eastern Province U19 Cricket players have been selected to attend Cricket SA’s training camp next month at its Centre of Excellence in Hatfield.

Matthew Breetzke, Jonathan Draai and Lutho Sipamla will attend the camp which is one of the last opportunities for coaches to see players before the final Coca-Cola SA U19 squad the 2016 ICC U19 World Cup in Bangladesh is chosen.

“Having three of our young players selected to attend such an important Cricket SA training camp is a testament to the talent we have in the province,” Comments EP Cricket CEO, Jesse Chellan.

“It is through our investment in amateur cricket, that we will be able to continue creating and sending world-class cricket talent to represent our country and put EP Cricket back on the map.”

National coach, Lawrence Mahatlane, says: “We’ve been working with a number of players for the last year or so, trying to build up a possible squad for the World Cup next year. This is one of the last few times that we’ll be able to see guys in a group of this size before the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola and CSA Cubs Weeks at the end of this year and beginning of next year.
“We’ve had several smaller camps in the different regions, concentrating on batsmen and bowlers individually and also played a couple of series with different players who offered several combinations and, results aside, I believe the majority of the group has been exposed to enough international-level cricket to know what to expect when they reach a World Cup situation,” he continued.
“For now though, the players know what has been asked of them and what is expected of them when they arrive at camp and we are looking forward to seeing the amount of commitment that they have put into their training. There is a lot at stake for each player coming in,” Mahatlane concluded.
