Elderly Port Elizabeth man brutally assaulted in apparent road rage incident

Police in Walmer say arrest of suspect imminent

Port Elizabeth - Walmer police in Port Elizabeth are investigating a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an elderly man was brutally assaulted by a person allegedly recklessly riding a quad-bike.

"It is alleged that on Friday afternoon, a 67-year-old man confronted a man on a quad-bike for driving recklessly along Sedan Street, Lorraine, Port Elizabeth," said police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.

"The man was severely assaulted and at about 18:45, he went to Walmer police to report the incident.

"However, due to his nature of injuries, he needed immediate medical attention."

Capt Janse Van Rensburg said that the police have opened a case on behalf of the complainant and a formal statement is yet to be obtained.

"The suspect is known and an arrest is imminent."
