Emalahleni Local Municipality hosts Education Summit at Lady Frere

The Emalahleni Local Municipality on Wednesday held a first-of-its-kind Education Summit at Mtsheko Community Hall, in Lady Frere.

The summit afforded local learners, parents, school principals, teachers, as well as the School Governing Body (SGB) a chance to meet with local, district and Provincial Government officials to discuss strategies to improve the state of education in the area.

Speaking at the Summit, Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle, commended the municipality for the efforts they are making in ensuring a brighter future for their children.

The Premier also emphasised the importance of education and communities leading by example to ensure positive school results in the area.

“To have the community leadership that is fighting to improve the quality of education is something that we have been yenning for and I’m sure that this will lead to a change in the performances of the schools,” the Premier said.

Also present at the event, Emalahleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Nomveliso Nyukwana, handed over R100 000 to the local SGB. The municipality hopes the money will assist them in hiring tutors for the students.

Executive Mayor Nyukwana said that; “With this 100 000 they can budget for April -June, at the end of May more money will be added money for more tutors so that they can help with the challenging Maths and science.”
