Engen Audi racing team to compete in the 2018 GTC at Aldo Scribante

Motor Sport aficionado’s gathered at the Audi showroom on Thursday night to see renowned sports car drivers, Michael Stephen and Simon Moss, who will both be driving Audi tour cars for the Global Touring Cars African Championship (GTC) on Saturday the 14th of July.

The GTC Championship will be taking place at the Aldo Scribante Race Course just outside of Port Elizabeth.

Stephen and Moss, who are both based in Port Elizabeth, will be driving for the Engen Audi racing team.

Sports presenter and guest speaker for the evening, Marius Roberts, said “The GTC is a national competition that started in March and will end in October”.

The championship consists of nine races, so far the drivers have only competed at four tracks- the Kyalami circuit in Midrand, the Killarney Raceway in Cape Town, Zwartkops Raceway in Gauteng, the East London Circuit and now the Aldo Scribante race track.

Race car driver and Engen Audi Team engineer, Michael Stephen, has won the South African championships thirteen times and the Sasol GTC championship for the last two years running.

Stephen commented on the current championship, “We have won the last three rounds, had one race victory and seven podiums”.

“We will race our home track on Saturday and our success record for the home track and the championship, for the last two years has been great, so we are aiming for a win” he added.

All the race car enthusiasts attending Thursday night’s event, were excited about Saturday’s race and delighted when special guest speaker, legendary race car driver, Terry Moss, appeared and talked about his experiences as a driver.

Engen Audi team owner, Terry moss, said “It is great that Audi has officially re-joined our team, as it will increase our ability to defend our title and win the GTC for the third consecutive year”.
