Enhanced Ford Focus ST now available

Four months after the launch of its refreshed sibling, Ford South Africa has officially announced pricing details of its range topping Focus ST.

Although set to be replaced by the RS as the hottest Focus model later this year, the revised ST is, for the moment, touted as being the most advanced iteration of any model yet.

Compared to the outgoing ST, external changes include slimmer front headlights, revised front bumper, a taller grille, new rear bumper with twin-hexagonal exhausts, updated bodykit with rear diffuser, and the option of 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels as well as red brake callipers.

Less subtle, changes under the skin are more prominent with the most notable being the fitment of a revised sports suspension with stiffer shocks and bushes, model-specific anti-roll bars, recalibrated electric power steering and a revised Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system with an industry-first Enhanced Transitional Stability (ETC) system.

Designed to monitor vehicle stability and driver inputs, ETC automatically applies the brakes when a skid or loss of control is detected. In addition, the revised ESC now comes with three settings; Standard, Sport and Off, which allows for the choosing of different modes depending on road conditions. An upgraded Torque Vectoring System completes the range of dynamic changes.

Mechanically, the ST remains unchanged with power still coming from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine which churns 184 kW and 360 N.m of torque. A six-speed manual remains the sole transmission option with Ford claiming a 0-100 km/h sprint of 6.5 sec and a top speed of 248 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.8 L/100 km and emissions at 159 g/km.

Available once again in ST1 or ST3 trim levels, standard spec includes Recaro sport seats, cruise control, keyless start, illuminated footwells, ST branded steering wheel, gearknob, instrument dial cluster and scuff plates and SYNC infotainment system with Bluetooth, Voice Activation and dual USB ports.

Building on this, the ST3 adds daytime-running LED’s, directional bi-Xenon HID headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated leather Recaro front seats and upgraded SYNC 2 system with a nine-speaker Sony audio system, eight-inch touchscreen display and SD card slot.

A four-year / 120 000 km warranty and four-year / 80 000 km service plan is standard on both models.
