EPWP School Ambassador’s Project launched in West End

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in partnership with the Department of Education (DoE) and Correctional Services, through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) met with Principals, teachers and members of the West End community to initiate the EPWP School Ambassador’s Project, at the West End Community Hall on Friday.

"The high rate of unemployment in Nelson Mandela Bay called for concern, especially among the youth of disadvantage communities," the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said in a statement.

"It was for this reason that Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor: Dr Danny Jordaan initiated this project, allocating a budget of R4.7 million, which would see 150 members of disadvantaged communities receive temporary employment on a seven month-contract, as non-teaching staff at various Primary and High Schools around Nelson Mandela Bay."

The Principals, with the assistance of EPWP selected a candidate from the community, signed their contract and commenced with their duties at the schools on Monday.
