Eskom says expect Stage 3 load shedding from 8am until 11pm

Eskom on Tuesday morning said that it will implement Stage 3 rotational loadshedding from 08:00 in the morning until 23:00.

On Monday, Eskom first implemented Stage 2 load shedding, but quickly moved to Stage 4 by lunch time.

"Despite the generating units returning to service as planned, the emergency reserves (diesel and water) are still low," Eskom explained.

The power utility warned consumers to treat all electrical points as live during load shedding.

Eskom will continue to update customers on load shedding

It said that Stage 3 calls for 3000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period. Load shedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

“We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za).
