Eskom says system remains vulnerable, but expect no load shedding on Friday

Eskom says while the system "remains tight and vulnerable", the probability of load shedding is low on Friday due to improvements in power generating performance and the strides made in replenishing its water and diesel reserves.

"We thank South Africans and all our customers for working with us through a very difficult five days," the power utility said.

It said that while the system remains vulnerable, efforts are being made to limit the need for load shedding, "which could be implemented at short notice should there be a shift in plant performance".

"This could include a significant loss in generating capacity due to unplanned technical breakdowns."

Eskom appeals to residents and businesses to continue saving power

“We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za).
