First Grading of Graaff-Reinet Karoo OGKK Dojo

The Karoo OGKK (Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Kyokai) based in Graaff-Reinet had their very first grading on Wednesday the 12th of October 2016.

The dojo was established in March 2016 with only 3 students and has grown in leaps and bounds since.A total of 20 local students attempted and passed their first grading and were awarded their yellow belt with the two youngest members (6yrs old) receiving a red stripe on their existing belt.

Sensei Jannie le Grange (6th Dan) and his wife Sensei Betsie le Grange (6th Dan) from The Southern Cape Goju Ryu Dojo, located in George, travelled down to specifically conduct the grading and students were rigorously put through their paces, each having to work hard to meet the required standard to pass.

It was in fact a very special occasion as Sensei Jannie was the very same Sensei who graded Sensei Neville to his first yellow belt at the tender age of 14 in George. Goju Ryu is a traditional style of Karate with its roots in medieval Okinawa and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
