Five arrested in New Brighton for possession of firearm and ammunition

Five male suspects were arrested in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, for the illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

"This followed after the Motherwell Operational Command Centre (OCC) members received information of persons with firearms driving in a white Ford Fiesta in New Brighton," described police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"At 15:00, on Tuesday, the OCC members spotted a suspicious white Ford Fiesta being driven in Kale Street, New Brighton."

Five arrested for illegal firearm and ammunition

He said that on stopping and searching the vehicle and passengers, a 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition was confiscated.

"All five males, aged 25 to 40, were arrested."

Capt Beetge said that the firearm was found with serial number removed, and was sent for ballistic and forensic testing.

"The suspect will appear before the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Thursday to face charges of the illegal possession of an unlicensed fire arm and ammunition."
