Whether you are a do-it-yourselfer or crafter of any skill level, who enjoys tackling projects around the house, or you are a contractor in need of the best tools and supplies to complete that project, Strand Hardware is your home.

Situated at 303 Govan Mbeki Avenue, in Port Elizabeth, Strand Hardware are the importers and distributors of a wide range of woodworking machinery, power tools and accessories by leading global brands. They also stock popular brands such as Makita, Bosch, Nova, Triton, Festool and Stanley to name but a few.

Strand Hardware has built a reputation for stocking items that you can simply not find anywhere else. Their well-equipped board centre can also supply Melamine boards, Formica tops and allied materials, which they cut and edge to your specifications.

Strand Hardware was founded in November 1972, by Brian Jolly who up until 2016, was still actively involved.

“Strand Hardware started as the size of a double garage with a stock worth of about R2 000, in Peel Street, in the Port Elizabeth CBD – so, it was called Peel Street Hardware,” described Candra Neilson, Strand Hardware Marketing Manager.

“We then moved to Strand Street, where we got our current name as Strand Hardware, around 20 years ago – we moved to our current position, where we currently occupy  approximately 2 700 square metres on 3 stories and have two additional warehouses. We are currently investigating expansion opportunities in Port Elizabeth starting in Newton Park.”

Neilson said that the hardware store specialises predominantly in woodwork machinery and accessories.

“We are made up of four Divisions: Board supply & Cutting; Woodworking machinery and Accessories - that we import and distribute through dealerships located around South Africa as well as Zambia, Namibia and Botswana; Retail, Power tool repairs and servicing; as well as an Online store,” she added.

According to her, Strand Hardware mainly serves the trade industry – however, they welcome general home improvement / DIY enthusiasts.

With nearly 50 years in the industry, Strand Hardware has differentiated itself from other local hardware stores in ensuring that their customers get the best service, advice and tools that they may need to get the job done.

“Every staff member has a stake in the outcome of the company’s success – each individual is empowered within Strand Hardware; their ideas are heard and encouraged to provide a great customer service experience and through product expertise,” explained Neilson.

What’s more, the hardware store remains a family-run store, which, Neilson adds, means; “We have respect, unity, team work, and open communications within Strand Hardware, which enables us the ability to adapt rapidly to changing market factors.

“This helps us to create an all-inclusive working environment that overflows into service excellence and a welcoming, friendly relationship building atmosphere for our customers.”

For their clients’ convenience, Strand Hardware has an online store where one can browse through their wide-ranging stock and make purchases, without having to leave your site or home.

“We have about 14 000 items in store and 3 500 online, we have loads more to offer. If you want it and it’s not online, we will put it there - we pretty much do whatever we can for our customers,” Neilson said.

“Don’t ever hesitate to call us. We also endeavour to repair most tools that are currently on the market - irrespective of brand, if the spares are available.”

To keep their customers up to date with new trends, Strand Hardware occasionally hosts shows on premises. They are having one on 3 and 4 November 2017.

“Certain machinery will be up to 50% discount for limited quantities; we will have loads of other specials; hourly prizes as well as live demo’s, advice from our experts and lots of food and beverages to ensure a day of family fun,” Neilson described.
