Foreign shop-owner burnt to death in his shop - police appeal for leads

Police in East London have opened arson and murder investigations aftera foreign national, believed to be in his 20's, was burnt to death after his container shop was set alight in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Nokhala Location, Kwelera, just outside East London.

According to the police, an unknown number of people set alight the container shop using tyres, petrol and gas cylinder.

Police have since appealed to local residents, who might have knowledge of the suspects, to come forward and assist in their investigation.

“Anyone with information is requested to contact the SAPS Bluewater detectives on 043-8511540 or 0860010111,” said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

He added that, no arrests have been made at this stage.

In an unrelated incident, Cambridge detectives arrested two suspects, aged between 28 and 30 years old, for house robbery in Amalinda, East London.

It is alleged that the suspects entered the house and threatened the nanny who alone at the time and demanded laptop and cellphones before fleeing on foot.

“A case of house robbery was opened and police recovered a laptop,” said Captain Mbi.

The suspects will appear before the East London Magistrate's court on Thursday.
