Former Buffalo City Mayor and MP, Zukiswa Ncitha, granted bail for fraud

Former Mayor of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCM) and the Municipality’s Head of Department (HOD) are again expected in the East London Magistrate's Court on 7 June following their brief court appearance on Monday for alleged fraud.

"Zukiswa Ncitha (60), the former Mayor, who is now a Member of Parliament, and Ncumisa Sidukwana, the HOD, appeared in court after they handed themselves over to the Hawks in East London the same day accompanied by their lawyer," said police spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni.

"Ncitha and Sidukwana are additional two suspects who have been arrested in connection with a case of fraud at the municipality.

"The other four suspects, who were arrested 3 March 2017, are Visvanathan Vincent Pillay (54), the Municipality’s Financial Officer, Luleka Ethel Simon-Ndzele (51), the Municipality’s former Speaker, Thembelani Prideaux Sali (45), the Municipality’s Supply Chain Manager and Matthew Moodley (53), a local attorney.

"The four were each granted bail of R2 500 on the same day in March."

Captain Feni said that the suspects are alleged to have colluded with a certain company, which submitted an invoice to Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality for unauthorised services and the money was paid out without following proper procurement processes.

"All six suspects appeared at the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday and Ncitha and Sidukwana were each granted R2 500 bail."
