Four armed robbers nabbed following high speed police car chase

On Thursday evening, at approximately 19:00, four male suspects allegedly entered a shop in the Moyeni patrol area whilst  three males remained inside.

"One of them was in possession of firearm demanding money. When the shop assistants resisted two of  them were assaulted on the head with the firearm," described Captain Mali Govender.

"The suspects forcefully took an undisclosed amount of cash fled away using a vehicle identified as an Avanza

"The police were alerted of the incident. Members on duty responded as soon as they received the call and sighted a vehicle matching the description that was furnished."

Capt Govender said that police officers chased the vehicle until Lewisiswood near the  BP garage, which is at the N2 intersection, where it was stopped by the members.

"Four suspects, aged between 26 and 32 years, were arrested."

She said that police recovered a 7.65 pistol with ammunition, six cellphones , an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime and the getaway vehicle a Toyota Avanza.

"The suspects face a charge of armed robbery. They will appear in the Peddie magistrates court shortly," Capt Govender said.

Port Alfred Cluster Commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender, commended the members for their speedy response.
