Four arrested in Motherwell for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammo

Port Elizabeth - Four male suspects, aged between 23 and 30, were arrested in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in their vehicle.

"This followed after alert SAPS Flying Squad members noticed a suspicious charcoal Datsun Go driving without number plates in Nzunga Street, NU5, Motherwell at about 12:00 on Moonday," described police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"On searching the vehicle, an unlicenced 9mm pistol (with its serial number removed) and two rounds of ammunition was found on the passenger side floor."

He said that all four male occupants were arrested, but three were later released.

"The remaining 25-year-old suspect was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will be appearing before the Motherwell Magistrates Court on Wednesday."
