Four busted carrying illegal firearms in Grahamstown after raising cops' suspicions

Four men are expected in court this week after they were busted by members of the Joza crime prevention unit, in Grahamstown.

"The members, who were on duty onn Monday, noticed a VW Polo sedan parked alongside the N2 highway with four male occupants, who appeared nervous," described police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"This arose the suspicion of the officers, who undertook a search of the occupants and the vehicle.

"During the search they found three pistols - including two 9mm pistols and toy air pistol."

She said that pistol magazines and ammunition were also seized as well as other property.

"Four males in their mid thirties were arrested. They face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition. Forensic procedures will be undertaken on the seized firearms."

Capt Govender said that all suspects will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court later this week.
