Four busted in Mthatha after stealing cellphones worth R2 million

Four suspects aged between 26 and 32 years were arrested by Mthatha police in Ngangelizwe on Wednesday, at about 03h30, for allegedly stealing cellphones worth around R2 million at a local business.

"They were arrested after there was a business burglary at York Road Jet Stores on Wednesday at about 01h00 where a number of cellphones was stolen," described police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"It was after an intensive investigation where an information led police to a house where the suspects were arrested. Cellphones to the estimated value of R2 000 000, an amount of cash R11 000 and electric appliances were recovered and confiscated.

"Their Toyota and Isuzu bakkies which were used during the commission of crime were also confiscated."

Suspects will be linked to other Mthatha robberies and heists

She said that they will be linked to a number of courier vehicle hijacking cases where boxes of cellphones were allegedly robbed and also business robberies.

"Once we link them we will solve quite a number of cases. We want to warn the two that managed to flee the arrest that you can run but you cannot hide yourself from the law," said Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo.
