Four jailed for 18 years for robbing Pakistani shop-owner of R11 000

The Mount Frere Regional Court on Tuesday handed lengthy jail sentences to four man for business robbery.

The court sentenced 23-year-old Matiwane Malibongwe, 25-year-old Sithokozisi Thula Godla, 26-year-old Mthokozisi Nelson Gqoli and 28-year-old Sebenzile Meaning Rasmen to undergo 18 years imprisonment for the robbery, which occurred at Lutateni A/A, Gemiston Location on 17 March 2015, at about 15h15.

"It is alleged that these four men entered a shop where they met a 41-year-old Pakistani national, who was the owner of the shop," described police spokesperson, Captain Edith Mjoko.

"It is further alleged that they demanded money, assaulted the victim and took the sum of R11 000 and disappeared.

"Swift and thoroughly investigation by Detective Constable S. Ntando led to the arrest and conviction of the accused."

Cluster Commander Brigadier Mtutuzeli Mtukushe welcomed the sentence and commended job well done by the detectives.
