Free State police make breakthrough in hijacking and gang rape case

The Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Bloemfontein Crime Intelligence and Tactical Response Team made a breakthrough in the arrest of two males aged 28 and 30 who were allegedly involved in the hijacking and rape of a 28-year-old woman in Phase 4 Mangaung over the weekend.

According to Free State police, the victim and her 45-year-old male companion were surprised by a group of five males.  The victims had made a brief stop to allow the boyfriend to relieve himself when the suspects pounced and chased the boyfriend away.

All five suspects then jumped into the vehicle and drove away with the female victim.

It is believed they stopped at an open field in Phase 4 where they took turns raping the woman before fleeing the scene.

Following crime intelligence based information and intense investigation by FCS` Sergeant Motshelisi Lichaba, the police were led to a shack where both suspects were arrested.

Two suspects, Jan Napo Masilo and Teleki Andrew Setlhako appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates` Court on Monday and will be back in the same court on the 15 June 2015 while they remain in custody.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three remaining suspects may contact Detective Sergeant Motshelisi Lichaba on 051 406 4493.
