Port Elizabeth - The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit (Gang Investigation) arrested a 25-year-old gang affiliate at his home on Wednesday night in Gelvandale.

"It is alleged that on Saturday, at about 19:00, three males 23-24 years old, were walking at the corners of Springbok and Tobias Streets in Gelvandale when they saw three males walking towards them," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"Two males pulled out a firearm and started shooting at the group, who managed to escape unhurt. However, a stray bullet hit a 10-year-boy, who was sitting on the pavement.

"He was struck in his upper arm and was taken to hospital for treatment. The suspects ran away."

She said that on Wednesday, at about 22:45, the Provincial OCI members, with assistance of Mount Road Cluster OCC members, followed up on information of the whereabouts of one suspect and he was arrested at his house in Goliath Street in Gelvandale.

He is detained on four counts of attempted murder and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
