Six men were arrested for allegedly breaking into a residence in Vincent Heights, in East London, on Friday night.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi, they apparently robbed the family of jewellery, a gun and other valuables worth an estimated R500 000.

"The six men allegedly broke into the Vincent Heights home on Friday around 7pm while the family was having dinner and robbed them at gunpoint," described Capt Mbi.

"It is alleged that four males kicked the front door opened and got inside, they then ordered the people inside to lie down. They took their jewellery cellphones.

"Two of the suspects then went downstairs with the complainant and demanded the keys of the safe."

He added that they opened up the safe and took a firearm, jewellery and other valuable items.

"The men locked the family in the upstairs bathroom and left with an estimated R500 000 valuables."

After the robbery, members of Mdantsane OCC Immediately circulated the vehicle details.

"They followed up intelligence driven information and the men were later arrested at a lodge in Selborne.

"It is alleged that they used a Range Rover that was hijacked in KwaZulu-Natal Natal, which was also recovered by the police," Capt Mbi said.

"The suspects is expected to appear at the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday."
