General Motors South Africa posts best sales results in two years

General Motors South Africa (GMSA) has sold 5 301 units in October 2015 up 3% from last month and posting the best sales results since October 2013. This against the backdrop of industry sales dropping 2%.

Sales were mainly driven by South Africa's favorite sub one-ton bakkie, the Chevrolet Utility, coming in just under 2 000 units, the highest volume since April 2008. Also notable, fueled by the recently launched range, the Isuzu KB bakkies sold 1 376 units, up 8.7% versus September.

Meanwhile Opel continued to gain momentum with an increase of 63% versus year to date 2014 sales. Opel has a number of exciting products being launched in the next few months, starting with the Opel Adma Rocks, which combines the toughness of an urban adventurer with the coolness of open air driving. Adam Rocks will begin arriving at dealerships later this month.

Brian Olson, vice president of Vehicle Sales Service and Marketing, said the new vehicle market remains tough, however attractive deals at retail level saw GMSA dealers delivering the best dealer sales & market share in two years.

"Without doubt, the Red Tag event has once again driven an increased level of retail activity.  Our dealer market share was firmly in the double digits and we expect the trend to continue through the end of 2015. And we will carry this momentum into 2016 with a number of additional product launches early in the new year," he said.
