George Municipality hosts Recycling Day Awareness

On recycling day, the George Municipality (Environmental Services: Cleansing) arranged for 100 learners from four different schools  in George, Thembalethu Primary, Holy Cross Primary, Hibernia Primary and Heidedal Primary, to attend an educational  tour at the George Transfer Station.

"Global recycling day is to make people aware of the importance of recycling and why waste should become less so that less refuse goes into the earth," the municipality said.

"Learners were educated mainly on the importance of recycling, waste handling and waste processes at the transfer station.

"Learners were excited to see how the transfer trucks were operated and how they load and unload the big containers. They were also educated on the weighing of the refuse at the weigh bridge."

The learners were amazed to see the huge amount of refuse that come from homes and business that goes back into the earth.
