George wins Provincial Govan Mbeki Award

George Municipality was recently honoured with the 2016 Govan Mbeki Award for the Haarlem Farm Workers Housing Project. This project highlighted the collaborative working relationship between the Western Cape Department of Housing, George Municipality and HAS Consultancy.

The project which built 20 houses for farm workers was funded primarily by Strydom Farmers & Sons in their personal capacity with additional funding provided by the provincial department for housing. George Municipality was appointed as the Accounts Administrator and ensured quality control in conjunction with the provincial department of Housing and the National Home Builders Registration Council. HAS Consultancy was appointed by province and nominated the project for the Govan Mbeki Award.

The Govan Mbeki Human Settlement Award is the flagship housing award in the Western Cape. The nomination and subsequent win reflects the quality of human settlements delivered by the George Municipality. On completion of the building project Sentraal Suid Korporasie and Tuinroete Agri donated a satellite dish and decorder for use by the twenty beneficiaries.
