Three suspects, between the ages 24 and 26, were arrested shortly after a 33-year-old male was allegedly robbed in Despatch, just outside Port Elizabeth, on Tuesday, at about 00:40, due to swift action by SAPS officials.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart; "It is alleged that the victim was approached by the driver of a maroon VW Polo and his two passengers in Voortrekker Street, Despatch at about 00:35.

"The driver offered the victim a lift to his residence. The victim got into the vehicle and they drove towards the direction of the cemetery in Despatch where the driver stopped next to the road."

She said that was when the driver, then demanded money from the victim and the passenger inside the vehicle, threatened the victim with a firearm and the suspects robbed the victim from an undisclosed amount of cash, his cellphone and bankcards.

"The suspects pushed the victim out of the car and sped off. The victim then flagged down a SAPS vehicle on patrol and members circulated a description of the vehicle and suspects to the surrounding stations," described Captain Swart.

Members from the Uitenhage Operational Command Centre, who were on duty at the time, noticed the driver speeding in Caledon Street, Uitenhage and gave chase.

"The vehicle was stopped at the corners of Church- and Caledon Street, Uitenhage and the suspects attempted to fled on foot but were speedily apprehended.

"All the items that were robbed from the victim were recovered," she said.

"The three suspects were detained and will appear on a charge of robbery aggravating in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court soon."
