Grade 12 learners torch Ndaliso High School buildings over Matric exams

A case of arson is under investigation after Grade 12 learners at the Ndaliso High School in Lusikisiki went on the rampage and torched school buildings in a protest over the conduct of the 2018 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.

The 2018 Matric exams formally began on Tuesday across the country.

"On Tuesday, Grade 12 students of Ndaliso High school from Mthontsasa refused to write their first paper," described police spokesperson, Capt Nozuko Handile.

"They were complaining about the rules of the Department of Education and also complained against Principal."

She said that the circuit office members intervened and also gave the students, who are willing to write the exams a certain number that they must contact, so that they can be helped.

Ndaliso High School later torched

"The meeting dismissed," Capt Handile described.

"During the night, the police received a call from community members, who reported that the school was on fire."

She said that three offices were burned.

"Police monitored the situation. An arson case has been opened and no arrests have yet been made."
