Great venue for functions: Joe Fish offers a great mix of service, ambience and food

Cape St Francis, despite all the houses, is a hamlet at heart.  There are few shops, fewer hotels, no bottle stores and a scattering of restaurants and pubs.

One would expect what is on offer to be mediocre at best but, in the case of Joe Fish Restaurant, this is not the case – it is a real gem.

Situated in the heart of the Cape St Francis Resort off Da Gama Road, the restaurant has a distinct nautical and beach-side ambiance and the focal point of the outside seating is the swimming pool.

The service is good and, in the case of the bar, can be self-service too.  This restaurant can get very busy in peak holiday season and over sunny weekends, so patience may be needed, but as you’re probably enjoying a slow holiday pace, this is generally not a problem.

The food is very good, particularly the hake and calamari. The snack baskets are perfect for a pool side lunch.  The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and can cater for up to 90 people inside, and 110 outside in a formal environment too.

As a venue for a year end party, this restaurant would be hard to beat. It is far from the craziness of a work environment and somehow being pool side takes the edge off an otherwise formal event.

Joe’s bar with its cosy, relaxing environment and roaring log fire offers two flat screen televisions making it the perfect place to watch all the latest sport.

There is Wi-Fi and plenty of outside places for smokers. The restaurant can serve Banting and vegetarian dishes and if your function includes children, tell them to bring their costumes. There is also a generator in case of load shedding and an espresso coffee machine for those wanting to complete their meal with a cappuccino.
