Grey Cricketers have the better of Paul Roos

The Grey Paul Roos 1st XI 2 day cricket match held over the weekend ended in a draw, with Grey winning on the first innings. The highlight of the match was the brilliant 105 not out  by the Grey middle order batsman, Nicholas Fowler

"Grey won  the toss and elected to bowl first . An excellent display of fast bowling by Tiaan Van Vurren saw Paul Roos reduced  to 131 all out. Van Vuuren took 5 for 24 and was ably assisted by Matthew Biggs, who had figures of 15 overs 2 for 14m," described Neil Bielby, Director: Sport - Master-in-Charge of Cricket at Grey High.

Bielby said that Grey  were then in trouble with the bat after losing 5 early wickets.

"LJ Du Preez then entered the fray at 65-5 and counter attacked well with a quick-fire 23, moving the score to 100 for 6," he described.

"The next morning Nicholas Fowler and Matthew Biggs put on a stand of over 100 to help Grey declare on 222-6. Fowler scoring a superb 105 not out and Biggs supporting with 43 not out."

Bielby said that 91 runs behind Paul Roos then batted again, but after losing an early wicket were under pressure; Paul Roos batted much better the second time around and ended on a very respectable  218-2.
