High risk of Eskom loadshedding on Friday and over the weekend

Eskom warned that there is a high risk of rotational loadshedding on Friday, which will continue over the weekend as there is a need toreplenish emergency reserves (water and diesel) to limit the possibility and magnitude of loadshedding in the following week.

"While the risk remains high, loadshedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary," Eskom said.

"We remind customers that loadshedding is a controlled measure which protects the power system from a total collapse or blackout."

The power utility said that customers are encouraged to continue to use electricity sparingly.

"Please switch off geysers, pool pumps as well as all non-essential lighting and electric appliances to assist in reducing demand," it added.

"Customers are advised to keep checking their loadshedding schedules on the Eskom and their municipal website, and plan on the assumption that loadshedding will take place."

Eskom load shedding schedules

In the event that loadshedding becomes necessary, Eskom and the municipalities will use the published rotational loadshedding schedules.

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za). Eskom customers can also contact our customer contact centre at 0860 037 566.

"Eskom will continue to provide regular updates about the state of the power system through various media platforms."
