Hlosi Game Lodge offers pure relaxation

This year has been tough for most businesses with political turmoil, rising inflation, interest rates and a predicted low growth rate. It certainly is enough to make me shudder at the thought of reaching sales targets and balancing my budget.

From past experience, I know that getting into the bush is one of the best ways to relax. Clean air, beautiful vistas, great food and the wonderful silence of the wilderness is an amazing tonic for stress. Two days in the wilderness and I am ready to deal with what the business world throws at me.

The Eastern Cape has many beautiful areas but one of the best is certainly the Amakhala Game Reserve located just 70 km from Port Elizabeth on the N2 heading east and 230 km from East London heading west.

This 18 000 acre malaria free game reserve, where the Big Five roams freely, offers a selection of accommodation in luxury star rated establishments made up of restored colonial country houses, safari lodges, tented and partially tented camps.

One of my favourite places at Amakhala Game Reserve is the four star Hlosi Game Lodge which is set in tranquil grassland with sweeping views of the plains. The combination of thatch roofing, wooden boardwalks, dark woods and darker leather gives this magnificent lodge the kind of African ambiance of a by-gone era, rich in luxury and comfort.

Step into your suite and all the accumulated stress of the office falls from your shoulders. The spacious rooms, magnificent view, crisp linen and awesome bathtub placed just so that you can enjoy the splendour of the African bush with a fresh breeze wafting over your sud-soaked, destressed body is simply fantastic.

Once you’ve settled in, head for the lounge, order a G&T in true bush lodge tradition from the bar and survey the waterhole just off the deck. Dinner will be served shortly and this you do not want to miss. In fact, every meal at Hlosi Game Lodge is an experience from the elegantly set tables to the delicious menu.

The Amakhala Game Reserve has a variety of biomes and Bushmans River meanders through the game reserve too, adding a riverine environment with its own wildlife features. The Big Five are great, make no mistake, but it is often the mongoose or meerkat, kingfisher or raptor or even a chameleon that attracts the most attention. Thanks to the highly experienced and knowledgeable guides at Hlosi Game Lodge, you’ll get the full bush experience.

The lodge is completely fenced and safe for families with small children, or for those who aren't comfortable with a chance-meeting with wild animals. The lodge is frequented by the wildlife and it is wonderful to watch a herd of elephants pass by while sunbathing at the pool.

If finding time for a weekend getaway is difficult then you can also make use of the Day Safari’s which includes a three hour game drive and a two course, scrumptious lunch.
