Horrific N2 highway accident claims five over the weekend

Festive season deaths in the Eastern Cape increased when five people died in a horrific accident that happened between two vehicles on N2 Highway, between Tsolo and Qumbu, over the weekend.

According to Eastern Cape police, in the accident that happened on Saturday, "all five - three males and two females, died instantly on the scene after two vehicles, from Gauteng, with five passengers collided headon with a Toyota Quantum with one person, a driver, who also died at the scene."

Police could not disclose more on what might have caused the accident.

"The vehicles were towed to Tsolo Police Station for forensic investigation."

Meanwhile, a Toyota Fortuner driver died in a hospital where he had been taken following an accident in which his vehicle overturned near Dutywa on Friday evening.

One person also was killed on the R58, between Barkley-East and Elliot, on the same day when a Toyota Quantum he was travelling in from Gauteng overturned.
