Housebreaking suspect runs out of luck in Elliot

A housebreaking suspect met his match when he attempted to break into an Elliot home on Friday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Ursula Roelofse, on Friday, at 11:00, the man entered the yard of the house and opened the patio door, but there was also a security door.

"The home owner was inside the house and saw him. She shouted at him and he fled," Capt Roelofse described.

"She contacted the police and a local police officer immediately responded.

"As the member arrived, he spotted the suspect who fled."

She said that as the member was chasing the suspect, the community joined in the chase.

The 23-year-old suspect was later arrested.

Elliot SAPS Cluster Commander Col Gezani commended the member on the quick response and also thanked the community that also assisted and did not turn a blind eye in the circumstances.
