Huge dagga bust at Willowmore police roadblock, driver arrested

Willowmore - A Safer Festive Season roadblock by Willowmore police led to the seizure of a substantial amount of dagga worth over R200 000.00 and the arrest of the truck driver.

"On Friday, at about 07:00hrs,  Lieutenant Colonel Jonas and six members from Willowmore Police Services, five Provincial Taffic officials, were manning a roadblock on the N9 Road from Willowmore, when they stopped and searched a white truck," said police spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson.

"On searching the truck the members found 23 bags of dagga hidden in the back of the truck.

"The 23 bags of dagga weighed 572 kilograms and were estimated at R200 200.00."

He added that a 54-year-old male suspect, the driver was arrested and detained at the Willowmore Police Station.

"During the Operation, the members searched 107 Vehicles, 348 persons, issued nine traffic fines to the value of R9 300," said Capt Rawlinson.

"The objective of these Operations are to check on the vehicles and passengers who are traveling on the roads to contibute to a Safer Festive Season."
