Humansdorp police appeal for leads after woman killed during two house robberies

The South African Police Service in the Humansdorp Cluster in conjunction with detectives from SAPS Humansdorp and Thornhill have launched a manhunt for suspects following separate house robbery incidents and a murder that occurred on Friday night.

"It is alleged that four unknown males entered a house through an open door in Weaverway, Thornhill at 22:00, on Frida night, and threatened the couple with firearms and knives," said police spokesperson,  Captain Gerda Swart.

"The suspects tied the couple up and demanded cash. The complainant tried to overpower one of the suspects and he was stabbed multiple times with a screwdriver.

"The suspects also allegedly assaulted him in the process."

She said that the suspects took cellphones, tablets, laptops, jewellery and cash and fled from the scene.

"The complainant managed to alert their security company and the SAPS."

Thornhill SAPS are investigating a case of house robbery.

Capt Swart said that the couple was taken for medical treatment.

She added that a second house robbery incident occurred at 22:50 on Friday night along Vergenoeg, Kwanomzamo, Humansdorp.

"It is alleged that some of the occupants were sitting in the lounge, when there was a knock on the door. Upon opening the door two armed males (both had firearms) entered the house and threatened the occupants," Capt Swart said.

"The suspects demanded cash and about R200 was handed over to the suspects. The suspects then allegedly went into the bedroom and fired several shots at someone, who was sleeping. The suspects fatally wounded a 36-year-old female.

"The suspects then fled the scene and Humansdorp SAPS was notified. Detectives from Humansdorp SAPS are investigating a case of house robbery and murder.

"The name of the victim will be released after her next-of-kin was notified. The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage."

She said that detectives are following up on all possible leads in both these cases.
"The South African Police Service appeal to home owners to be vigilant at all times and to ensure they utilize the security measures that are in place at their homes or to improve on it," Capt Swart said.

"Doors and windows must always be closed and locked, especially during night time.
