Ilinge man hands himself over to police after killing friend

Ilinge - Ilinge Police arrested a 29-year-old man for alleged murder after he handed himself at Ilinge Police Station outside Queenstown, on Sunday morning.

"It is alleged that the suspect  and his 37-year-old friend were enjoying themselves at Tyutyu Locality, Machibini Village outside Queenstown on Saturday, at about 21h00, in the house of the 37-year-old man," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is further alleged that the 29-year-old man invited his girlfriend for the drinks at the house of the 37-year-old man."

However, a quarrel started after the arrival of the girlfriend.

"During the quarrel, it is alleged that the 29-year-old man drew his knife and stabbed the 37-year-old man on his upper body."

The 37-year-old man was rushed to Frontier Hospital, Queenstown, where he later passed away.

Capt Manatha said that the suspect fled as he was being traced by the Ilinge police.

"He handed himself over on Sunday morning at Ilinge Police Station."

Capt Manatha said that the suspect is expected to appear before the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court outside Queenstown on Monday on a murder charge.

"The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until all his relatives are officially informed of his murder."
