Imbasa says farewell to their Grade 7 learners

A primary school situated at Motherwell NU12, Port Elizabeth, best known for its musical exploits after being recognised by the Eastern Cape Department Of Education Port Elizabeth District as the Best School in Music in 2016, held a farewell for their Grade 7 learners, who will soon go to various high schools.

The learners at Imbasa Primary School were not in their usual navy and white uniforms, which they exchanged for high heels, make-up, weaves and fancy dressing.

Speaking to RNEWS, Nomsa Masiza Collet, at teacher at the school, who organised the special event said that she was happy that special day finally came.

“We are very happy because they changing to another phase; they are going to high school,” she said.

“What is important about today is not what they wear, but the motivations they will get when they get to where they are going by people, who have walked this journey."

She had some advice for the learners.

"They must know that high school is not the same as primary school because here we care for them like their parents and when they get to high school it’s not going to be the same. We want them to know that they are shaping their future and be able to prioritise because this is a big step for them, so they have to focus and make good choices,” Collet said.

She added said that the learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds and their parents' hopes and dreams lay in their hands.

Speaking to RNEWS, Zinathi Jozana said that she was excited that finally the day she would enter high school had come.

“I’m very excited I don’t even know how to describe how I feel because I have been waiting for this day for a very long time.

“Primary school was nice - it is nice here actually, but I’m 100% ready for high school,” she said.

Asemahle Mhlawuli also said that she was exicted and ready to start at a new school.

“I’m happy that I will finally leave primary school and I am very much excited that we are going to a fancy place today.”
