Dutywa police have opened an inquest docket after a physically-challenged 25-year-old woman was killed in a fire at her home at Rwantsini Location, Gxara Village, in Dutywa.

"It is alleged that the deceased was a physically challenged woman, who was unable to walk as she was bed ridden," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The house where the deceased was caught fire on Wednesday at about 14:00."

He said that the fire destroyed the four roomed house as the deceased was inside the house.

"She died inside the house as the fire was too strong for the community who tried to extinguish it but in vain.

"The cause of the fire is not known but under investigation by the Dutywa Police," said Captain Manatha.

"It is believed that the relatives of the deceased were in the village when the house caught fire."

The identity of the deceased will be withheld until all close family members are officially informed of her death.
