Inquest opened after 76-year-old Uitenhage man killed in shack fire
Uitenhage - The South African Police Service in Kwanobuhle is investigating an inquest after a 76-year-old man died after the informal home he was sleeping in burned down on Thursday night.
According to police information, the incident happened at about 18:50 in Kwatsha Crescent, Kwanobuhle.
"The family alerted the fire department about a fire that had broken out in an informal house behind the main home," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.
"The Police and the Fire Department were summoned to the scene and the fire was extinguished.
" It was only after the fire was extinguished that the body was discovered."
She said that the cause of the fire is not known at this stage and it is under investigation.
"The name of the victim is Nontozinzima Nkwinti."
