International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day 21 May 2017

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of May each year, to commemorate the lives of those lost and affected by HIV and AIDS. It provides opportunities for leadership development, policy advocacy, partnerships, and improvement of community mobilization skills. It is also an opportunity to promote local AIDS services and to encourage education and community dialogue. The theme of 2017 is “Ending AIDS Together!”

George Municipality is celebrating this day annually, to show its support to HIV infected and affected families. The day will be held in the form of a church sermon, which will include spiritual messages by ministers from different church communities, motivational talk by an infected person, the lighting of candles and a speech by the Executive Mayor.

The sermon for the AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day will be held on 21 May 2017 at the George Community Church in Rosemoor.

Shanold Marillac will be acting as the Programme Director. Apostle Gavin Biegnaar will do the opening prayer as well as the main sermon. The Executive Mayor Melvin Naik will do the keynote address and Portfolio Councillor Alderman Mercia Draghoender will handle the lightning of the candles. The congregation will be blessed through music and spiritual dance by the Praise and Worship team of the church, George Municipal Choir, Jonathan Fortuin, Veronique Ferndale and Jonel Kerspuy.
All members of the community are invited to attend this sermon and transport will also be provided.
