Irish dancers win big in Cape Town

The Irish Dancing Cape Town Championships was held at the Magnet theatre in Observatory on the 12th of May.

Several dancers from the McWilliams Academy of Dance in Port Elizabeth took part in this competition, which was adjudicated by Mr Brendan O’ Brien from Limerick, Ireland.

Miss Courtney Pearce won the senior championship 16 years and over.

Miss Jemima Opperman won the senior championship 15 years and under.

Three of their dancers also won trophies for their 'reel' - a high-energy soft shoe dance:

  • Irene Pitsiladi
  • Emma Wedderburn
  • Courtney Pearce

The MADS won a total of 19 gold medals and 7 silver medals

Mr. O’ Brien will be travelling throughout South Africa to adjudicate the Irish Dancing grade exams and we wish all the dancers the very best of luck!
