It's a scam: Eastern Cape Dept of Transport warns public of fake driver recruiter

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport on Tuesday warned residents of a man, who calls himself  'Madiba', who is said to be going around promising people posts as drivers in the Department.

According to the Department, it has been informed that the man, who reportedly operates in the Joe Gqabi District, in Sterkspruit, is going around asking for R500 as job security from his unsuspecting victims. The money is paid through retail outlets such as Shoprite.

“It is reported that the money is to secure the job as well for the prospective employee to receive an application form,” the Department explained.

However, it warned that the man does not work at the department and said that there are currently no advertised driver posts at their offices.

The public is also warned that government institutions would never request a payment to supply an employment application form. The Z83 form that used for applications in the public service is available for free at any government department or can be accessed on government websites.

Communities are requested to remain alert and not fall victims of those, who prey on the poor and vulnerable.

“Anyone who comes in contact with this man is requested to report the matter to the nearest police station or contact our customer care centre on 0800 644 644,” concluded the department.
