Port Alfred - The Port Alfred Regional Court on Thursday sentenced Nosibusiso Busi Mangi, aged 24, of Ndlovini Township, in Bathurst, to eight years in prison for culpable homicide.

She also received a three-year suspended sentence for five years for attempted murder.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, she was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

"On the 11th November 2018, at around 02:00, the deceased, 25-year-old Sivuyile Kiki Lukwe of Thembisa in Bathurst and his girlfriend (the accused), were asleep in his room when his ex-girlfriend came to fetch some of her personal belongings," Capt Govender described.

"An argument ensued between the couple and the accused, who was armed with a knife, stabbed the deceased several times.

"She, thereafter, stabbed the ex-girlfriend several times and fled the scene."

The man died at the scene whilst the ex-girlfriend was taken to a local hospital and thereafter transferred to a hospital in Port Elizabeth as her condition was critical. She was later discharged.

"Shortly after the incident, the accused was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder," added Capt Govender.

"During the trial, the charge of murder was changed to culpable homicide."
