Jason Kieck wow’s Pretoria audience with Whispers of the Orient

Showcasing a range of haute couture inspired by Eastern and Asian cultures, acclaimed fashion designer Jason Kieck stunned the crowd at Whispers of the Orientwith a dazzling display of elegance, colour, glam and glitz. The event was held in aid of The Igazi Foundation on 8 September at the Sun Times Square Arena in Pretoria.

The total amount that was raised for The Igazi Foundation from Whispers of the Orient Charity Couture and Entertainment Gala Dinneris not yet available as a final meeting is to be held later this week to work out the final calculations on the amount raised, but it is in excess of R500000,00.

While the final proceeds from the Charity Auction have not yet been calculated, Jason Kieck Designs was gratified by a final bid of R12000 for a gown.

Asked to share his personal highlight for the evening held on Saturday, September 8, at Pretoria Sun Times Square, Kieck said: “There were so many accolades, comments on Facebook, well wishes and blessings.”

Kieck added, “It was the first time that we had hosted an event in Pretoria and we went ahead based on one or two people’s belief in us. People were so impressed on the evening that they came to us and are already on board for next year as a sponsor.”

What especially touched Kieck’s heart was the generous sponsorship of Pretoria Sun Times Square. “Sun International provided the equivalent of R1million in sponsorship for an arena of that capacity as well as all the audio visuals,” said Kieck. “Their sponsorship was a profound and humbling moment,” said Kieck. “I am not aware of another facility providing that level of trust and confidence in a designer.”

On the work involved to stage an event of this magnitude Kieck’s wife, Yiota said, “All the show stuff is done in between other work.”

Forty gowns were created for Whispers of the Orient, all of them intricate, as well as ten additional gowns for guests. Three seamstresses are a necessary part of staging a show stopping event such as Whispers of the Orient.

Where does Jason Kieck derive his inspiration?  “There are various forms of inspiration,” he mused. “Music was selected before the design process in conceptualising Whispers of the Orient.  Music is an emotive element of a show, but there is inspiration all around us.

“All the inspiration came from natural elements such as the fluidity of the Koi fish, and the colours and textures of a peacock’s feather and cherry blossom. Inspiration can also come from the drive home and observing a sunset in colours from corals to lavender greys.

“With the technology that surrounds us, we can also draw from inspirational designers and their design aesthetic.”

The venue has already been booked for Jason Kieck’s next fashion extravaganza which will take place on 19 October 2019 in Pretoria.
